Student Feedback - full comments
Spring 2022
The course objectives were to learn about Dalcroze's Eurhythmics practice of musical learning. The objectives were very clear from the beginning and the in-person, discussion and movement oriented delivery were very intuitive and apt for the objectives of the class.
I enjoyed how much Chris engaged us and poked our brains about things. At first it was a bit rocky as we students adjusted to his way of engaging us, but as the course went on, generative discussions and movement practices were explored in every class. Nothing in particular did not work well for me with regards to how the class was set up.
There wasn't really anything about the class that didn't work for me. Chris was always paying attention to our small group and how engaged we were so if he felt something wasn't the right direction to go, we would change course
Feedback was always supportive and helpful

Spring 2021
Every exercise we did related to that so it really helped to explore and relearn how to move.
We learned how to express nuances of music through our body, focusing mainly on the space around us and the expression of rhythm and other notations of a musical piece using different parts of our body.
The objective of this course was to gain a better, more holistic understanding of music by using a variation of the techniques developed by Dalcroze to move and represent music being played...by the end of the course I certainly had a better intuitive understanding and appreciation for music and its relationship to the body.
Objectives were to understand music with the body, focusing on the "space between", what usually goes unnoticed when studying music. Embodiment was key to learning this, and our constant movement and variety in activities supported this learning.
As a part of our assignments, we were required or encouraged to comment of one of out friend's assignment. We wrote about our take on their response/submission or simply left a comment that would make their day. I found this practice very meaningful. Chris would always make sure to leave a comment on every one of our assignments which was very encouraging as well.
Chris was reflective and responsive in class and also gave great, thoughtful feedback on populi.
The class times were really fun and a good way to spend Monday afternoons, and the homework assignments were never too heavy but always interesting and thought-provoking.
I really enjoyed the partner work, there's so much to learn from my peers!
I believe that the in-class group activities, the interaction with music was very helpful. It was much easier to understand when expressed through the body.
I believe that overall, I found the class very interesting. It was unlike anything that I had experienced before. It was satisfying to see my musical knowledge being put to use while reading notations and doing the conducting and rhythm exercises. I really enjoyed the class.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable and insightful class. I feel like I learned a lot intuitively and am grateful to Chris for teaching this course.
Chris is such a thoughtful teacher!

Fall 2021
This course's focus was teaching the principles of Dalcroze's eurhythmics and the process of embodiment within music. I believe that Chris was successful in instilling the fundamentals of Dalcroze's theory into the class, and I found the different tactics used to be both creative and engaging.
The open-ness and great connection between the professor and the rest of my classmates was something that greatly worked well for me.
I felt that the class itself became a tightly-knit community, which was a lovely experience in itself. I liked how much we switched up activities. Readings delivered to our mailboxes! It was hard to get bored. Lots of time outside. Guests. All good things.
The class is very fluid and accepting and I appreciated Chris's accepting outlook on all responses and approaches.
Thank you Chris for a fun, informative, and inspiring class!
